You will know when it's time to change the water.  It will become cloudy and might have a slight smell to it.  

My experience is about 2 to 3 weeks if I am using it daily and showering before use.  That is approximately 14-20 times used.  I also use a small fish tank filter that helps clean debris floating in the water.
